The General Assembly came into session today, ie Monday, January 8, 2018, to restore the Medicare Savings Program. I supported this bill, which will delay from January 1, 2018 to July 1, 2018 the Medicare Savings Program (MSP) eligibility decrease which was passed into law. When the budget was passed late last year, I was extremely concerned about the impact of the budget on our vulnerable citizens. The decrease in eligibility should have never occurred, but it was important to rectify that mistake. Glad as I am that the delay has been extended, I am very concerned about the significant budget deficits that we will be facing in the upcoming session, starting February 2018. It is imperative that we maintain our safety net and do not jeopardize the health of our senior citizens.
