The budget should have been approved and passed in early June and here we are after Labor Day and the indecisiveness continues. The budget proposed by the Connecticut House Democrats will force the Governor to cut municipal aid. Once again they have abdicated their responsibility, they are reluctant to make the difficult decisions. The impact on property tax hikes and additional cost transfers to towns and cities is unacceptable. Towns cannot be left scrambling. Schools have already reopened. Towns have no choice but to tap their fiscal reserves to pay their bills. To be still discussing the lapse proposal is a disgrace. Our constituents deserve better, our state deserves better.
